Several years ago my husband proclaimed us “Disney Geeks”. Most people would not like to have the word “geek” used to describe themselves in any fashion, but we wear this title as a sort of badge of honor. Now, we’re not so obsessed that we’ve decorated our home top to bottom with little Mickeys everywhere, not that there is anything wrong with that, it’s just not our style. Although, I did just put a cute picture of Mickey & Friends in the kids bathroom so it may be in our future! Our love of Disney extends mostly to the travel portion. We are Theme Park people, we love ’em!! We go as often as we can. The planning for us is almost as much fun as the actual vacation itself. We enjoy lengthy discussions about where we would like to stay next, what restaurants we’d like to try, etc.

I got to thinking, what might actually qualify someone to be a “Disney Geek”? So in the style of Jeff Foxworthy, I’ve compiled a list (in no particular order) of “You might be a Disney geek if….”. If one or more of these apply to you, then welcome to the club my friend!

1. You have enjoyed the tropical tasty treat known as a Dole Whip!

2.You know where to find several Hidden Mickeys. This is especially true if you find them even outside the confines of Disney Property, like say the way your grapes form a Mickey on your plate at lunchtime. I’m not saying this applies to me, buuuut I’m not saying it doesn’t 😉

3. You know all the words to There’s a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow. You get bonus geek points if you can still remember the words to The Best Time of Your Life (which I’ve always called Now Is the Time even though that’s not the actual title).

4.You know what a FastPass is and more importantly, you know which rides to best utilize them on. Even better, you can actually hear the Chariots of Fire theme song in your head as you make a mad dash for Toy Story Mania at rope drop!

5. You know what the following initials stand for: DVC, ToT, EMH, DDP, MYW, AP, ADR, MNSSHP and whole slew of others that you’re now thinking about too!

6. You know what a PIN code is and you call religiously to see if you have one. Knowing what a Bounceback is helps too.

7. You know the right angle to take pictures of your food so that you can post them to all the Message boards you visit so that the rest of us loonies can pretend we’ve just devoured that bowl of Canadian Cheddar Cheese soup from LeCellier.

8. You know how to hit the right targets to gain extra points on Toy Story Mania and Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin.

9. You have a binder with all of your planning essentials including, but not limited to, reservation information, dining reservations , character meet & greet locations, park hours, weather, directions, and (most likely) spreadsheets.

10. You start planning your next trip on the way home from your current one!

I have to give an honorable mention to a couple of others too. If you can name all the resorts and what level they are ….you might be a Disney geek. If you have stick figure people decals with Mickey ears on the back of your car….you might be a Disney geek.

There are a TON of us out there, I just know it, I’ve probably commented on or replied to your posts on those fab message boards. Even though our friends and family probably think we need therapy of some sort, I think we need to stand, proudly united! My name is Haley and I am a DISNEY GEEK!
