I have a confession to make.  I am one of those people who plans their trip to Disney World around the food.  Yup, I am a foodie.  Unfortunately for me, very few of my friends and family are as adventurous as I am when it comes to food.  However, one of the things I LOVE about Disney is their ability to please everyone, from picky eaters to foodies!

Jiko is one of my favorite restaurants.  Jiko is one of the Signature restaurants at Disney World, located in the Animal Kingdom Lodge – Jambo House.  The first time I went,  I was accompanied by my cousin, who is not an adventurous eater.  We both found something to rave about at the restaurant!

My cousin had the chicken and she asked for a different side item then what was on the menu.  She was VERY happy with her dish!

I went a little more adventurous – and had some of the more exotic items on the menu!

The appetizers range from the delectable Bobotie rolls (left)  The complex Taste of Africa Platter (center) to the sweet corn soup (right)

In the few times I have been to Jiko, I have been very impressed with the food, so much so that I have taken photos of my neighbors plates – with their permission of course!  On another visit, a fellow foodie and I both requested the side dishes with our main course be switched.  This was accommodated with no problems.  The service at Jiko has always been above and beyond my expectations – even for Disney!

Dessert at Jiko is no less amazing.  There are some really fun options for dessert, if you have room that is.  Check out the “baby” coconuts on the Coconut Bread Pudding Dessert.  (center below)

Jiko is an upscale restaurant, with a casual dress code.  The atmosphere of the restaurant is wonderful, with elegant light fixtures that resemble birds in flight, and the stunning rosewood tables.  To learn more about the food and décor of Jiko, consider taking a tour of the restaurant.  Culinary tours are offered frequently, just check the activities board posted near by – in the waiting area for Boma (which is just next door)

Jiko is also home to the largest Hidden Mickey at Walt Disney World.  It can be found above the Kiln ovens used to make the flatbreads.

Jiko is a great signature restaurant, with a full selection of South African Wines.  There is even a wine room that can be used for special occasions.  Jiko is a great choice if you are looking for something off the beaten path and just a little bit different.
