Do you have a child that just loves Star Wars? I have two boys that given the chance would do nothing but battle each other with lightsabers all day long; which is why I was so excited to find out about the Jedi Training Academy! Daily and year round young Padawans between the ages of 4 and 12 can train with a Jedi Master at Disney’s Hollywood Studios™.
You will want to sign your children up first thing as the spots fill up quickly. When entering Disney’s Hollywood Studios™ head immediately over to the ABC Sound Studio and follow the Jedi Training Academy signs. Your child will be given the next available time slot and you’ll receive a paper pass to bring back with the time for your show. When you arrive your child is given a lightsaber and a brown robe to use during the show.
When the Jedi Master arrives he’ll position the children for training. The show starts with the children taking the Jedi Oath. Next they will practice powering up their lightsabers and a simple battle technique to use.
Alas! Midway through the show the Dark Side makes an appearance, usually in the form of Darth Vader accompanied by two storm troopers. He will try to lure the children to the dark side and when they refuse to join him it is time for battle! Each child gets a chance to practice their battle techniques (with the Jedi Master coaching them) while battling the bad guy.
Once every child has had a chance to fight, the children learn that the can best defeat the Dark Side by working together. Altogether they use the force to push Darth Vader away and he admits defeat and exits. The children turn in their robes and lightsabers and receive a certificate that they completed their training.
While the children are not allowed to keep the robes and lightsabers from the show, they can build their own lightsaber right next door at Tatooine Traders. It’s a great souvenir to take home, and certainly one of boys’ favorites!
This show is a great opportunity. Remember, it is very popular and there is very limited space. It is best to be there at park opening in order to secure a spot for the day, but it is an experience your child will always remember!
