When the 27 year-old attraction, Maelstrom, at Walt Disney World® Resort’s Epcot® was closed for re-imagining late last year, it brought both grief and elation. Fans of the current attraction were appalled that one of their favorites was leaving to be turned into yet another experience feeding the “Frozen frenzy” whereas Frozen fans danced with joy at an upcoming new attraction in the Norway Pavilion featuring their new favorite Disney princesses. Whether you are a member of either camp or fall somewhere in between, this attraction is looking to be a winner based on some early sneak peaks.
The new “Frozen Ever After” attraction will feature the same logs and the pathway of the original Maelstrom, but everything you see along the way is being replaced by Arendelle and its winter festival that takes place in the midst of summer. You will likely be met with a hearty “Yoo-hoo!” as you enter the queue past Wandering Oaken’s Trading Post to board your log. Throughout the ride you’ll encounter everyone’s favorite warm hugger, Olaf, along with Kristoff and Sven, the trolls, Anna, Elsa and even Marshmallow and his Snowgie pals from the animated short “Frozen Fever”. The ride wouldn’t be complete without several musical favorites offered by Anna and Kristoff and of course Elsa’s famous “Let it Go” from the balcony of her ice castle.
The Imagineers’ goal with the attraction is to not retell the story but to let the park goers experience the movie and its characters in a different way, using the cutting-edge animatronics technology recently seen in Magic Kingdom® Park’s new ride, the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train.
“Frozen Ever After” is scheduled to open in Spring 2016.
