On June 15th 2012 a changing of the guards of sorts will take place in Disney’s California Adventure as ElecTRONica is replaced by The Mad T Party. ElecTRONica is a teen-young adult dance party themed after Disney film franchise ‘Tron’. Tron has had a good run, and is a genuinely fun weel themed show. But what it is being replaced by has some people scratching their heads.

When the rumor of an Alice themed show to replace ElecTRONica the internet world was a buzz with activity. With Tim Burtons Wildly popular adaptation still raking in the money it was sure to be themed after that, but with the images released by Disney this week seems to be something more out of a 90’s rave, rather than a night time dance and light show.

According to the folks at the Disney Parks Blog the Mad T Party will feature a live band, themed in psycadelic ‘Alice’ themed garb. The Mad Hatter will host while his tea party comrades make up the body of the band. The Dormouse, Cheshire Cat, and even the White Rabbit as a D.J.

The guards of this party are Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, they themselves have shoes that any club go-er would be proud of.

Now, it may be that I am getting old. It may be that I never really understood the club scene when it was age appropriate for me, or it may just be that I have kids… but this whole concept rubs me the wrong way. But then again, I am not alone. Message board after message board online full of die-hard Disney fans HATE it.

“This really looks terrible. Words alone cannot describe how bad the concept art is.”

“I don’t want to live on this planet anymore.”

“They’re trying so hard to be ‘hip’ and ‘edgey,’ but the end result is hilariously overdone. And I’m saying that as a member of their target demographic, too.”

“Oh no, Hot Topic gained sentience and manifested itself into various human forms to conquer the world of man!”

I guess we will have to see what it is like when I am there in July, so keep an eye out for a full report and video.
